JAY IRELAND
Jay Ireland was appointed President, NBC Television Stations, in November 1999. He has overall executive responsibility for the operations of NBC’s 13 owned-and-operated television stations, which reach more than 27 percent of U.S. television households. In addition, he is charged with continuing the division’s expansion by developing programming to run in all dayparts for NBC’s stations and the syndication marketplace, as well as exploiting new business opportunities across the station group. Ireland is also a GE Company officer.
Before joining NBC, Ireland had been the vice president and CFO for GE Plastics since 1997. Ireland started his career with General Electric in 1980 in the Financial Management Program in Lynchburg, Virginia, and joined the Corporate Audit Staff in 1982, where he progressed to executive audit manager. In 1988 he transferred to GE Plastics in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where he held several financial and product management assignments. He then moved to Bergen op Zoom, Holland, in 1990, where he was managing director of Polymerland–Europe, a plastics distribution company. In March 1993, he returned to Fairfield as Manager, Corporate Investor Communications. In May of 1995, he was appointed Vice President, Corporate Audit Staff.
Ireland is a trustee and treasurer of the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and a member of the Parents Board of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Ireland received his bachelor of arts degree from St. Lawrence University in 1977. He and his wife, Valerie, live in New York City with their two children.
