Diversity at NBC
NBC remains committed to diversity in our work force. We strive to attract, hire and promote employees throughout the company who reflect the cultural and ethnic tapestry of the global marketplace. We believe in diversity not only because it's 'the right thing to do,' but because it makes basic business sense in a fast-changing and dynamic viewing environment.
Years ago, NBC voluntarily implemented a mandatory training program in diversity for all employees. These sessions aim to increase awareness of and sensitivity to diversity issues in the workplace. Diversity Task Forces throughout the company follow up on issues raised during these sessions, and senior executives both attend the sessions and act as facilitators.
NBC's commitment to diversity manifests itself in the programming we produce and air as well. Prime-time programs such as 'ER,' 'Homicide' and 'Law and Order' portray strong, positive role models who represent all segments of our population. And minorities have strong representation in our news and sports divisions and our daytime and Saturday-morning lineup.
'Simply put, diversity is about providing an environment which removes all barriers so people can excel. Diversity is about inclusion. It's not limited to race or gender. It encompasses religion, age, education, sexual orientation, work/family issues, cultural differences, etc.'
-Bob Wright, President and CEO, NBC
