BRANDON BURGESS
Brandon Burgess was appointed Executive Vice President of Business Development for NBC in January 2002. He leads NBC's global business and transaction strategy and execution, including oversight of portfolio strategy for the company's investment holdings and alliances. Burgess sits on the boards of A&E; Networks, MSNBC, ShopNBC, the Miss Universe Organization, and NBC Europe.
Under Burgess' leadership, NBC has seen a record period of expansion through strategic acquisitions and alliances. These initiatives include the 2002 acquisition of the Spanish language broadcast network Telemundo, positioning NBC to enter the growing US Hispanic television segment. Burgess led the financial re-structuring of NBC's interest in Rainbow Media, resulting in the acquisition of Bravo, giving NBC its first entertainment cable channel. Burgess identified and executed TV station acquisitions, which took NBC's owned-and-operated broadcast base from 13 to 29 stations, including station duopolies in 6 of the top 20 local US television markets. This TV stations strategy included the acquisition of KNTV in San Francisco, which is now among the leading stations in this important local market.
Burgess' prior NBC positions included Chief Financial Officer for the NBC Television Network, and Director of Business Development. Other projects during these assignments include the implementation of the strategic relationship with Paxson Communications Corp., as well as the restructuring of NBC's investment in Rainbow Media.
Before joining NBC, Burgess worked in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs in London and Frankfurt, focusing on real estate and corporate finance. Subsequently he worked in PepsiCo's Corporate Planning group in Purchase, N.Y., focusing on planning and mergers & acquisitions.
Burgess was raised and educated in Germany. He is a graduate of the European Business School in Germany, and holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School in Philadelphia.
